Lots of fun, exciting events and a healthy mix of education! – That is what Newark children will experience this summer at the United Community Corporation’s summer camp for children ages 5-13. The camp is located in Essex County’s Westside Park begins July 5th. Organizers say campers will experience a program unlike anything else UCC has offered in the past. Camp staffers have one goal in mind – “to enable each camper the opportunity to enjoy their summer while learning and having FUN.”
The camp begins at 8:00 am with breakfast. After breakfast, Project Re-Direct teachers will focus on activities to further develop Math and Language Arts skills during the A.M. In the afternoon, campers will participate in various activities such as computer instruction, cooking classes, arts & crafts, sports, music, swimming and more. Mid-afternoon the camp provides a snack followed by more age appropriate fun activities designed to get young people up and moving. Camp is dismissed each day at 6 PM.
Every Friday this summer is field trip day!!!
Trips will expose campers to new settings outside of their neighborhoods and comfort zones, bringing them to experience nature, and culturally rich institutions of New Jersey and New York. UCC is committed to broadening the horizons of campers in safe and exciting ways.
Scheduled Trips: Governor’s Island Children’s Museum of Art, Liberty Science Center, Lakota Wolf Preserve, Brunswick Zone Bowling, the Newark Public Library, The Bronx Zoo, and a 4 day/3 night camping experience in Pennsylvania (Aug. 2nd-Aug. 5th).
By the end of the summer, campers will have experiences that will last a lifetime and a renewed enthusiasm to start the school year.
