UCC Celebrates 50 Years Serving Newark by Launching Jobs Training Program
Newark, NJ November 14, 2014. United Community Corporation (UCC) celebrates its 50 year anniversary, by announcing today the launch of a jobs boot camp to assist Newark residents in finding employment.
UCC has contracted The Chazin Group, LLC a firm that specializes in developing jobs training programs and career counseling programs for non-profits, workforce centers, and other organizations, to develop and conduct weekly jobs boot camps to help UCC clients prepare to re-enter the workforce.
The new training program will teach Newark residents that utilize UCC services how to write compelling resumes and cover letters, practice the interviewing skills required to obtain job offers, and the strategies that are needed to research organizations in and around Newark that are hiring.
“We are proud to extend the mission that UCC was originally created under in the 1960s serving as the anti-poverty agency of Newark under President Lyndon Johnson’s “War on Poverty” by helping people get back on their feet through job search boot camps,” said Armstead Jonson, the Executive Director of UCC.
“This new jobs boot camp extends the programs that we offer in serving Newark residents,” said Craig Mainor, Chief Operating Officer of UCC.
UCC provides the following services that serve very low-income residents of Newark: emergency shelter, food and clothing; case management; senior activities and nutrition; employment assistance and training; out-of-school programs for children and youth; transportation; and affordable housing.
